Nurse training and COVID-19 support

Upskilling nurses and supporing the national response to Covid-19

An agile response to training nurses in a pandemic

Our nurse training program  upskills nurses in Community Health Centres concentrating on triage and vital sign checks in a program originally developed with an Australian Government Friendship Grant.

When we found ourselves in the middle of a pandemic we quickly recognised that this was a great opportunity to help Timor-Leste with its COVID-19 response and we quickly updated our training to be COVID and vaccination specific.

What are we doing?

COVID 19 Response Support

A key player in COVID19 information sharing in collaboration with partners including the Ministry of Health, WHO.

COVID 19 and vaccination training and information packages have been rolled out to health professionals and other stakeholders.

We are actively involved in supporting government institutions in the mobilisation and rollour of the vaccine program in Dili.

So far we have:

1918 people have been provided with training or attended COVID 19 information sessions

Triage Training

In hospital emergency departments, triage is done by a specialised triage nurse as soon as possible after a patient arrives. Patients are allocated a triage category based on the time in which they need medical attention. This allows the treatment of the sickest first.

We have developed a complete training triage in all areas.

So far we have:

Completed triage training with 730 healthcare professionals

Medical Equipment Support for Safe Triage

Appropriate access to medical equipment, Personal Protection Equipment and consumables enables the implementation of safe triage and infection control.

These supplies help health staff implement the practices learnt in training

So far we have:

Supplied 54 institutions with medical equipment, PPE and consumables
