Healthcare Professional Development
Upskilling doctors and other healthcare professionals
Helping to develop a highly skilled and expert health workforce
Maluk Timor partners with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and Timor-Leste Ministry of Health to deliver the Health Professionals program which aims to develop a highly skilled national medical workforce and the next generation of clinical educators to strengthen healthcare in Timor-Leste in future.
We take a leading role in skills training and further medical education of Timorese doctors, dentists, nurses and health administrators
What have we done?
Trained Doctors
Our Family Medicine Training Program, is a recognised a Postgraduate Diploma in Family Medicine.
In collaboration with the RACS we are helping to create the “role model clinicians” of the future.
In this program we focus on improving skills in professionalism, technical knowledge, consultation, self-development, leadership and quality improvement.
In 2022 we:
Graduated 24 local doctors in family medicine
Trained the next generation of clinical educators
We are working closely with the national hospital, Hospital Nasional Guido Valadares, to develop their ability to deliver education.
We know that with a larger cohort of clinical educators Timor-Leste will be well on its way to sustainable, quality healthcare.
So far we have:
Trained 10 clinical educators
Who we work with on this program?
Timor-Leste Ministry of Health
Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
What's next?
We will continue to work towards implementing a Continuing Professional Development Program in Integrated Primary Health Care.
This will involve an extensive consultation process including consultations with multiple national stakeholders, desk reviews, conducting a training needs assessment, and finalising a curriculum for a 100 day training package.
