The Reality of TB in TL

This elderly man is awaiting test results to see if he has tuberculosis. He has already had the disease 3 times, on each occasion receiving 6-8 months of treatment. He is losing weight and his chest x-ray shows signs of his previous tuberculosis. Doctors need to differentiate whether his symptoms are due to new tuberculosis disease or not. Not an easy decision to make, especially where diagnostic tests are limited. Unfortunately cases like this are all too common in Timor-Leste, where this treatable disease is still rife. The team at Maluk Timor are working with doctors, nurses and healthcare workers to help them diagnose and care for patients with tuberculosis, This expertise is especially needed in difficult diagnostic dilemma’s like these. – Dr. Bethany Beckett, Maluk Timor Facebook Page
